Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of curtain rod will I need?
The valance is sewn with a built-in return, so it should wrap around the sides. To do that, you’ll need a curtain rod with a 3-inch, 4-inch, or 5-inch projection on each side, depending on how wide your window is.
These are usually flat rods and are commonly known as continental, or Dauphine rods. Our workroom recommends this curtain rod.
How do I measure for this valance?
This valance is available in 50-inch widths only. It will fit windows between 34 and 42 inches wide.
Can you make this wider than 50 inches?
Unfortunately, this style is restricted to a 50-inch width due to the way home decor fabrics are commonly manufactured. We offer many other valance styles for both narrow and wide windows to choose, however.
Which length should I select?
Most of our customers choose the 18-inch length. The 16-inch length is ideal for low ceilings or solid or small-scale fabric patterns, while the 21-inch length is great if the valance will hang well above 8 feet from the floor.
Keep in mind that large fabric patterns work best on longer valances, as well as that adding fringe will significantly add to the overall length of the valance.
Can I get a sample of the fabric first?
Of course. Click on the small picture of the fabric above, then click on the large button titled “Get a Sample” to purchase a sample.
Does this valance shirr on the rod?
No, this valance was designed to look more like a cornice. It will either hang fully taut or minimally gathered on the window once it’s up.
Can I also buy matching draperies?
If your fabric is available as a shaped valance, chances are it’s available for our other custom window treatments. Look for it in our custom valances or custom draperies products. Sort the fabrics by color to find your desired fabric easier. Keep in mind that those custom products require more time to sew, so the turnaround time may be extended by about an additional week.
Can I put two valances side-by-side on the same window?
We don’t recommend this. The shaped valance is intended for individual single windows.
Policies
Refund Policy
Our shaped valances are non-returnable since they are custom-made. We can only accept refunds or exchanges if there is an error in workmanship or damage during shipping, but we must be notified in writing within 14 days of delivery (you can find our contact page here).
We cannot honor return requests if your window was measured incorrectly or the fabric looks different on your device screen. To ensure you will be satisfied with your purchase, we encourage you to buy a fabric sample first and to follow the instructions we suggest, including our measuring and hardware recommendations.
Processing Time
Most of our shaped valances ship in about two to three weeks. On the rare occasion that a fabric is on backorder, we will contact you to give you the option of waiting or canceling the order. But we find that in most cases, backordered fabrics only add about one week to the overall turnaround time.
Cancellations
Our aim is to complete your order in a timely manner and start working on it almost immediately after you place it. For that reason, we can only honor cancellations within the first 12 hours of the time that the order is placed. Your request must be made in writing – use our (contact page to do this.
